To end child homelessness, we need more social homes.

Building more social homes is the only way to solve the housing emergency once and for all.

But, decades of underinvestment in this means that our country now has a severe shortage of genuinely affordable social rent homes.

This is causing record levels of homelessness, with over 161,500 children currently growing up homeless in temporary accommodation. And, it’s also costing us huge amounts of money, with the government’s annual temporary accommodation bill coming in at £2.3 billion.

Building a new generation of social homes will transform our society. It will create a safe, secure and affordable housing system for everyone. And, it’s the only way to end child homelessness.

This June, at the government’s spending review, they will decide how much money to put towards building social homes for the next five to ten years.

The government must live up to their promise of change and invest in building the social homes England so desperately needs.
