The Regulator of Social Housing must now decide how staff in social housing management should be qualified under the new Competence and Conduct Standard.
Sharing your story can help us testify to the Regulator of Social Housing as to why it is so important that anti-racism should be an explicit, key part of social housing management.
Shelter will collect your stories; we will make sure they are completely anonymised and share them with the Regulator of Social Housing alongside other evidence
Why should I share my story?
Our campaigning pressure on the government has already made a difference but we can still do more to make our call clear.
It is great that the government have said that senior Social Housing managers will have to be professionally qualified in equality, diversity and inclusion as part of the new Competence and Conduct Standard.
BUT, it needs to go further. Experiencing racism cuts you deeply. It is a pain that goes across generations. We need to do everything we can to kick it out of our housing system. Everyone should have a safe and secure home, free from racism and discrimination.
That’s why anti-racism must be explicitly put at the heart of social housing management in the new Competence and Conduct Standard. It would be a vital first step in beginning to dismantle systemic racism in our housing system.
By sharing your experience of racism when trying to access a social home, or telling us why you are supporting our campaign, you can make a big contribution to helping the Regulator of Social Housing hear our voices.
So please, share your story or tell us why you support the campaign to help begin to dismantle systemic racism in housing. If you'd like to upload a photo to illustrate your experience you can too.
We’ll always anonymise your story unless you tell us otherwise, and we will never share your story without checking with you first. If you have trouble uploading your photo, please email us at campaigns@shelter.org.uk
